7-27 Welcome Back Letter

July 27, 2020

Welcome Parents of Superheroes!

Our theme this year is Superheroes United! We know that it is going to take all of us working together to ensure that our scholars will reach their full academic potential this school year. We are excited to greet our scholars on Monday, August 3, as we continue learning through a virtual environment. For those of you who may have missed the Town Hall on last Thursday, the powerpoint is posted on the Leadership Preparatory Academy’s website.

Despite a significant cut to our budget, the Governance Board of LPA, has remained committed to maintaining our small class sizes. Additionally, we have reduced the number of sections per grade level to maintain our sense of community in this virtual environment. Our goal is to maintain as many of our traditional events as possible through an online environment. You will have an opportunity to meet our team virtually, but until then, we would like to welcome our returning team members and extend a warm welcome to our new team members:

July 13, 2020 School Reopening News

July 13, 2020

Dear Parents,

On June 30, you received a letter that outlined our tentative plan to begin the 2020-2021 school year.  The plan, which was outlined and described in detail in that letter, was developed using the recommendations from the LPA Reopening Task Force. As you know, the LPA Reopening Task Force included parents, teachers and administrators. The LPA Reopening Task Force was divided into working committees that included Safety, Curriculum, Communication and Logistics. The committees met and provided the Administrative Team with a report of recommendations that were utilized to develop the reopening plan. Since the presentation to the Governance Board on the LPA’s Reopening Task Force recommendations, we have continued to review current information from the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, and local health departments. As new information continues to emerge, revisions to the recommendations and standard operational procedures are being made.

The LPA Reopening Task Force recommended a staggered, hybrid approach to reopening school. That recommendation was accepted by the Governance Board, and the administration of the school was provided authority to make adjustments, as warranted. Parents were provided an opportunity through their commitment letter to decide between online instruction or face to face instruction. Face to face instruction would only occur with optimum safety conditions and would be contingent upon the most current health information. The majority of our parents (over 85%) selected eLearning on their commitment form while a small minority elected face to face instruction.

June 30, 2020 Reopening Notification

June 30, 2020

School Reopening

Dear Parents,

The LPA Reopening Task Force has been meeting since its inception to develop a safe plan to reopen school on August 3. In developing the recommendation that was accepted by our Governance Board at its rescheduled meeting on June 28, 2020, the Task Force reviewed parent surveys and reopening guidance from the Georgia Department of Education as well as other plans from across the country. The safety of our students and staff is of the upmost importance to the Administrative Team and the Governance Board of LPA.

Therefore, we will follow a Hybrid model for reopening which will allow for some face to face instruction and some online instruction. In order for us to continue to prepare for the opening of school, we need for every student who is registered and plans to attend LPA to complete the Commitment Form https://forms.gle/ghYMs8KCLUAh2h5g6. It is critical that you continue to monitor our website for updates. The LPA website is the official communications source for our school.

5-8 FAQ for Parents

Dear Parents,

This is our final FAQ for the 2019-2020 school term. I want to thank each and every one of you for a great school year. On Friday, May 1, 2020, we had held our second and final Parent Town Hall for the school year. This FAQ is designed to provide a summary of the Town Hall and respond to some questions that came up in the meeting.

WRAP UP OF 2019-2020

Grades - This is a reminder that the grades that students earned during eLearning are designed to improve students' grades. Students’ grades will not be lowered if they do not complete their assignments. I strongly encourage you to keep your scholar engaged by having them to attend the live lessons and submit the independent assignments.

Virtual Honor’s Day – LPA will be celebrating student’s accomplishments during our first Virtual Honor’s Day. The celebrations will occur for each homeroom. The dates are as follows:

4-14 FAQ for Parents

April 14, 2020

Dear Parents,

I trust that everyone is following the CDC guidelines and that this update finds you and your family well. We continue to pray that this challenge will soon be behind us. We have had a few parents that have been impacted and we are so thankful that they have reported to us that they are now in good health.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, you may have received a Guide for Students and Families for 2019-2020 from the DeKalb County School District.  As you already know, we are an authorized charter of DeKalb County Schools and some of the items listed in the guide are not applicable to LPA.  In the table below, I have provided an update for our families, according to each page in the guide, to clarify LPA’s position:
